Service Project - St. James Soup Kitchen

We’ve committed to providing four to six adult volunteers on two Fridays in March, the 14th and 21st. The formal hours of service are from 2:00 to 5:30 but the program director, Margaret Ecker, told me that they are not too strict on the starting time. Note that they now have many more volunteers than we used to see so we may be employed in helping with clothing distribution, for example, and not necessarily serving food on the buffet line.  Children over 12 are welcome to help.

The location of the church is 3903 Wilshire Boulevard 90010, but the soup kitchen is located in the church hall on St. Andrews Place behind the church. We should plan to park on the street, even though there is a small parking lot at the entrance to the hall.

NOTE: There is a touch screen at the parking lot gate and the entrance door. To gain access, look for “Soup Kitchen” on the screen, touch it and a phone will ring in the kitchen to let the workers know you’re there. If or any reason it doesn’t work, please call 213-550-3211 for help.
