Wilshire Rotarians Margie Christoffersen, Pam Rudy, Patty Lombard and Mercedes Wilson at last week's lunch meeting
This Week At Wilshire Rotary
April 16, 2023
Presidents Message
We all joined Rotary for a reason, maybe for a number of reasons, but I would bet that the main one is because we wanted to be of service to our community - to help another in need. If you could, wouldn’t you help 100 in need? If you could, wouldn’t you help 1,000 in need? That is where Rotary comes in for me. I have never before been exposed to such a powerful force for good that has such a reach around the world! To be able to have an impact both locally and globally is huge. That is why I hope everyone will answer the appeal from our Rotary International Foundation chair to contribute regularly and generously to the Rotary Foundation. We always want to help the one, but should never pass up the opportunity to help the more!
COMING UP
Wednesday April 19-7:00am breakfast at Canters
Jill Bauman
Social Benefit LLC
We met Jill Bauman originally as the CEO of Imagine LA, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty. Her work led her to realize that our social safety net system, consisting of over 30 different revenue streams, is a "system not really designed to work as a system!"
So she created Social Benefit LLC, The Social Benefit Navigator, which has the potential to radically transform the way that families and individuals navigate public benefits. It will maximize their ability to access benefits, minimize benefits’ negative impacts and disincentives to work, and equip users to envision and achieve lasting exits from poverty.
Come meet Jill to hear where this new tool can lead us as we strive to end the cycle of poverty.
