Hello Wilshire Rotary and Friends -

On Friday, April 12, we had our April service project at St. James Soup Kitchen. We helped set-up tables and chairs, cut up a ton of apples and celery to help prep for the meal, and then we served meals to individuals and families in our community. We also washed a big stack of pots and pans as the service was wrapping up. The crew that serves on a weekly basis was very appreciative and invited us back anytime. A truly rewarding way to kick off the weekend.

District 5280 Pageant of the Arts contest was held yesterday, Saturday, April 13. Wilshire Rotary sponsored 3 candidates to compete in Art, Music Vocal, and Music Instrumental contests. Danika Gorak from Immaculate Heart did a great presentation on how her work relates to this year's Rotary International theme to "Create Hope in the World." Judah Barson from Larchmont Charter played the piano beautifully and Ella Reitz from Immaculate Heart sang her heart out for the crowd. There were so many talented contestants in all three categories. Of our club's candidates, Ella Reitz received an Honorable Mention for her vocal performance. I couldn't be prouder of all the students for their time and dedication to their art. Congratulations to Ella and big thanks to Judah, Danika, and Ella for sharing your Saturday with Rotary.

Our Ebell luncheon this coming Wednesday, April 17 will be a notable talk from our very own member, Leon Nixon. He will speak to us about making a career pivot. Join us for what will be a very interesting talk. Several members are also being recognized with new or next level Paul Harris pins. Wendy Clifford is coordinating so please confirm with her you will be attending. President-Elect Josh Rudoy will run the meeting this week. Next Wednesday, April 24, we will have our monthly fellowship at the Escape Hotel in Hollywood. It's a very fun and unique venue for you to share with your fellow club members. The fun starts at 5pm so click here for more into and to RSVP WRC Embibes at Escape Hotel | Wilshire Rotary Club of Los Angeles

Saturday, April 27 will be an action-packed day starting with a District 5280 Beach Clean-Up at Sunset Beach. Our Rotary district is partnering with Surfrider Foundation for a morning of clearing Sunset beach (the northern most beach of Will Roger State Beach to Pacific Palisades). Please RSVP via this link as space is limited to the first 130 volunteers. Rotarians At Work Day | Rotary District 5280 (rotary5280.org)

Following the beach clean-up, we will help run a booth of carnival games at a Larchmont Block Party on the 500 block of North Bronson. Our Interactors will help run the games and we need Wilshire Rotarians there to help answer questions about our club and what Rotary does. Event runs 12N-5pm, so please attend for an hour or so to help promote Rotary in the community. Larchmont Block Party | Wilshire Rotary Club of Los Angeles
