Wilshire Rotarians and guests at the March 15th Breakfast Meeting at Canters
This Week At Wilshire Rotary
June 18, 2023
Presidents Message
What a full and amazing week this has been celebrating our Interactors and their accomplishments. I was especially honored to have been invited to attend the scholarship luncheon of the LA5 Rotary Club at The California Club downtown. As one of the oldest and largest clubs in Los Angeles they have built up an impressive endowment to be able to award substantial scholarships to a number of students every year. I was beaming with pride as four of our Larchmont Charter Interactors were awarded scholarships and it was mentioned that part of the reason they were chosen was because of the meaningful community service work they engaged in with Wilshire Rotary. I love it when our clubs support and acknowledge each other - just another great Rotary experience!

Final Breakfast Meeting at Canters
Join us on Wednesday for our final breakfast meeting at Canters. Starting July 1st, President Janice will be eliminating the breakfast meeting. Join us this week to say "farewell" (as a group) to Canters, to reflect on the past year and to offer our sincere thanks to both Canters and our amazing server Greg, who provided us with such outstanding service over the last two years.
JUNE SERVICE PROJECT
for
UNITED FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN
WE WILL CONTINUE SUPPORTING UFC THROUGH ALL OF JUNE
We have agreed to donate Target gift cards to the young and needful UFC clientele, allowing them to buy food, household goods, clothing and school supplies. There are two ways to contribute:
you can buy Target gift cards (I suggest one or more $25 gift cards rather than larger denominations that might be hard for UFC to handle fairly) and let Wilshire Rotarian Amy Cuomo know and she will gather them on behalf of UFC
Alternatively, you can contribute directly to UFC in any amount that you would like via this link: https://www.unitedfriends.org.
(Contact Amy Cuomo - amyDGM@aol.com - for further info)
We had an excellent turnout on Wednesday where our Larchmont Charter Interact Student leaders reviewed all the things they accomplished this year...an extensive and impressive list!
Participants in Pageant of the Arts shared their talents. Elisha and Esther Kim performed a beautiful Korean song on the traditional kayagum. Ellen Park displayed her outstanding work of art and shared her process.
Wilshire Rotary awarded cash prizes to Pageant of the Arts participants and to the winners and runners-up for the "Shark Tank" competition. The Wilshire Rotary Foundation also awarded two $2,500 Judge Thomas Lager academic scholarships to Abbik Ilyasov and Sol Kim and a $2,750 Jack Gilbert scholarship to Madeline Carranza.
LA5 ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON
It was my distinct pleasure to have been invited by LA5 President Melinda Monterossa (3rd from left) to attend their annual scholarship luncheon last Friday where they gave out 25 $10,000 scholarships to deserving youngsters. Four of those scholarships were awarded to our Interactors from Larchmont Charter School! David Lee; Abbik Ilyasov; Azimjon Sodikov and Sol Kim.
Open House last week and learned what an amazing service they provide for those facing food insecurity within our community. There will be numerous opportunities to partner with them on future service projects.
