What an incredibly inspiring person our zoom speaker was this past week! Rob DeCou's stories of personal strength and commitment were extraordinary. It was especially interesting to hear how he was able to leverage the power of Rotary's global network to expand his ability to raise funds for specific causes.

Listening to Rob reminded me how fortunate we are to be part of an organization that is so effective at addressing so many world challenges. Being part of Rotary really does empower each of us to make a much more significant impact in the world than we could ever make alone.

COMING UP THIS WEEK:

BREAKFAST MEETING AT CANTERS
In recognition of Veterans Day and those who have served our country
DAVID TENENBAUM
Hero's Linked: A Veterans Network for Success
Wed., 11/16, 7:00-8:30 am

David Tenenbaum is an Air Force veteran, the founder and CEO of Honor Media, a nonprofit media company focused on the veteran community, and is dedicated to helping veterans, particularly during transition. David will share his story of helping to address the unacceptable fact that a woefully insufficient professional network and an unclear path to employment are too often an unintended consequence of military service.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT LAST WEEK!

Dedicated Rotarian, Rob DeCou shared the mental and physical challenges that come with being an endurance athlete. He was the 7th person in the world to complete the grueling Uberman competition -   The 556 mile course goes from the Mists of Avalon to the Snows of Mount Whitney.  Starting on Catalina Island, participants swim 21 miles in the open Pacific Ocean to the shores of Palos Verdes. The 400 mile bike route leaves the city of Angels and climbs 20,000 vertical feet before descending to Badwater basin, at 200 feet below sea level, the lowest point in North America. From Badwater, athletes run 135 miles  through Death Valley before ascending 13,000 feet to the trailhead at Mt Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States.

In true Rotarian fashion, Rob has used his amazing talent to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for various worldwide causes.

NOVEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH

The Rotary Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International's sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world".

The Foundation helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
