Legacy Youth Leadership is one of the largest YOUTH activism organizations in the world. We are building the next generation of young socially-conscious activists by inspiring more than 360,000 students on over 1,000 campuses across America EVERY YEAR. In eleven years, Legacy Youth Leadership has mobilized 2.6 million students to raise $11 Million+, 100% of which goes for charity & to lead activations that raise awareness of humanitarian crises around the world! Seth Maxwell Chief Executive Officer and Founder Legacy Youth Leadership is not the first organization Seth has founded. Previously, Seth created The Thirst Project, the world's largest YOUTH water organization. Raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Seth grew up with a love for sharks and being on stage. Interested in storytelling, Seth started acting at the age of seven and moved out to California to earn a B.A. in Theatre at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts- LA. Although all paths lead to entertainment, Seth’s direction changed completely when one of his friends educated him about the global water crisis. Moved to take action, Seth started with the community he was already part of- schools, students, & young people. He set out to raise awareness about the global water crisis in school communities all over the world and move his peers to work to end it. More than a decade (and many schools later), The Thirst Project has now raised over $11 million and brought clean water to more than 500,000 people in 13 countries. While working at The Thirst Project, Seth discovered a passion for helping young people develop into the best leaders they could be. After years of building programs that accidentally did this, he created LYL to intentionally develop students' leadership skills, support them on their academic journeys, and equip them to be the most powerful agents for social change in the world for ANY cause. Seth has spoken internationally at over 300 schools, countless churches, and numerous conferences including TEDx Hollywood Youth Conference, the Global Youth Summit, addressing the United Nations General Assembly, and meeting with Obama Administration Officials at the White House. For all this work and more, Seth has been honored by Forbes 30 under 30, DoSomething Awards and even rang the opening NASDAQ bell on Wall Street.

Did you know that there are more than 10,000 children under the age of five among the population of Marine families living at Camp Pendleton, and that another 160 babies are born every month on base? The unfortunate fact is that many young Marines families don’t make enough money to furnish a small apartment, much less to equip it for young children or set up a kitchen.
District 5280 has held clothing and furnishing drives for the benefit of these families for the last several years, and the next drive will be held on Saturday, October 1. Our club, along with all of the Rotary clubs in District 5280, has been asked to contribute diapers, baby and young children’s clothing, toys, books, infant bathtubs, strollers, cribs, dishes, cookware, bedding - you get the idea. If you prefer, you can also contribute $25 gift cards from Target and Walmart or make monetary donations by contacting David Henseler of the South Bay Sunrise Rotary Club at 310-753-0929. Alternatively, you can take items (such as used bikes) to Hawthorne High School, located at 4859 El Segundo Boulevard, Hawthorne, on Saturday October 1.
Finally (and most conveniently for new items), you can purchase diapers and the like on Amazon by means of the following link and. the items will then ship to a location close to David, which he can then pick up and take to Camp Pendleton with the rest of the goods on October 3: https://smile.amazon.com/
Please let either of our Community Service co-chairs, Angel Amezquita (angel.amezquita@usw.salvationarmy.org) or Rob Barnes (robertcbarnes128@gmail.com), know if you have questions, and thanks in advance for supporting this most worthwhile project!

As an avid yoga practitioner in Los Angles, Kayoko founded Yoga Gives Back in 2007, a non-profit organization whose mission is twofold: first, to mobilize the global yoga community with gratitude and second, to empower women and children in India to build sustainable livelihoods. In its 15th year, YGB provides more than 2400 underserved mothers and children with micro loans and educational funds. YGB’s global campaign has reached many US cities and thirty countries worldwide with its mantra,“For the cost of one yoga class, you can change a life.” Prior to moving to the USA in 1992, Kayoko was a producer/director for NHK Japan’s National Public Broadcaster, working on primetime current affairs and documentary television programs; and cultural attaché at the Embassy of Japan in London. Her passion for documentary filmmaking is rooted in the perspective gained from years of living abroad including Australia, Brazil, United Kingdom and USA. Kayoko now uses her skills to film and produce YGB FILMS to share YGB’s fund recipients’ real stories with the global yoga community. For the last three decades living in Los Angeles, Kayoko had continued her work for NHK’s feature documentary programs as producer/director, but since 2016 Kayoko has become YGB’s Executive Director full-time. “First half of my life was to learn from experiences. Second half of my life is to serve others as much as possible! Thus, I am dedicating my life to a non profit, Yoga Gives Back, as Founder and President, to empower underserved women and children in India. YOGA has given me so much, a way to find peace in my heart, most importantly FAITH in myself. I am eternally grateful and I know millions people in the world share the same gratitude. So why not join us? We can do so much more if we come together, #OneMillionYogis!” AND A special added presentation by "The Life Chronicler" Gregory Leeson who has been traveling to all 50 states and Canada interviewing "ordinary people leading extraordinary lives". The interviews are on his website and ultimately will result in a book. Learn what sparked this remarkable journey and who knows, maybe YOU will be the next one interviewed! |

Oct. 26, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
On October 26th, immediately after our "field trip" to Rich Correll's Icons of Darkness, join us at Boardner's (Boardner's website) - a Hollywood Institution since 1942! This is a very special happy hour gathering where we will welcome our 2022-23 District Governor, Olivia Patterson-Ryans, and be able to show her how very special Wilshire Rotary is! DG Olivia asked us to "think outside the box" for our Governor's meeting so what better way to introduce our esteemed DG to Wilshire Rotary than to have her at one of our amazing happy hours! In the spirit of Halloween - feel free to dress up - I'd say, go "Halloween Light" for easy movement and relaxed atmosphere! Food and drinks will be handled individually at the venue, but please register so we know numbers!
Olivia Patterson Ryans Born in Chicago, the oldest of six children, I learned leadership, management, organization, accountability, and responsibility while growing up in Los Angeles, California. Attended Pepperdine University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in math and psychology and a Masters degree in Administration and Management of Schools. I’ve taught high school algebra and geometry before serving as a school administrator with LAUSD, a manager in the auto industry and as the Executive Director of a nonprofit agency in the real estate industry. I worked in the real estate industry for 20 years, now specializing in the commercial sector. I’ve always strived for leadership roles as my way to be of service. As president of the Rotary Club of Inglewood, I developed interest in the business of Rotary and grew active on the district level. Attending our District’s Humanitarian Trips, I saw first-hand my Foundation donations at work across the borders. It is my belief that if we are sincere about the work we do as Rotarians through Rotary, the Rotary Foundation should be the first charity on our list for giving. The greatest gift given to me, by Rotary, is my beloved husband. What a joy to have a life partner who shares my Rotary values and experiences. We work and play with the most unlikely folks from communities all over the world, developing friendships and partnerships, while helping those in need. Olivia served on the board of directors of Music Mends Minds and as an ambassador for the Rose Bowl parade. |

Join us for our breakfast meeting as, in honor of Veteran's Day, we pay tribute to those who have bravely served our country. We will be joined by David Tenenbaum, director of Heroes Linked: A Veteran's Network for Success. He’s recently served as a Secretary of the VA appointee to a Federal Advisory Committee and remains active in veteran advocacy and the veteran community through volunteering and being a member of the American Legion, Team Rubicon, Veterans in Media & Entertainment, Bunker Labs and UCLA’s Operation Mend Buddy program. We encouarge you to ride share, but valet parking is available at $15.00 which is a bargain for downtown. We will have a fun silent auction and 50/50 raffle along with other surprises. For those who wish to continue the party, sign up for the After Party at the Jonathan Club Tap Room. Details and registration can be found at the link below. https://wilshirerotary.org/event/wrc-90th-after-party-in-the-tap-room

Rose Tatum is the Director of Volunteering, Corporate and Community Partnerships for ENGin ENGin is a nonprofit organization that pairs Ukrainian youth with English-speakers for free online conversation practice and cross-cultural connection. We work with students age 10-35 and volunteers age 14+.
"We aim to transform Ukraine through the power of one-on-one connections, matching 100,000 students to volunteers within the next 5 years. Each of these pairings is a thread tying Ukraine to the world.
Today, our connections fight Russia's attempts to isolate and destroy Ukraine. Tomorrow, a generation of English-fluent, culturally competent young Ukrainians will rebuild our nation."
