DESCRIPTION:Food On Foot "It’s a grass roots organization addressing the
needs of the unhoused in Hollywood. With a program that addresses each pa
rticipant's individual needs through a series of life-skill programs and h
ard work\, Food on Foot guides them back from being unhoused into being in
tegrated members of our community.  The success rate of Food on Foot’s
program (where participants retain full-time employment and permanent hous
ing) is an astonishing 87%. "The first point of contact between Food on Fo
ot and the local community is the weekly Sunday Serving\, where we feed 25
0-300 of our unhoused and hungry neighbors from food donated by local orga
nizations and groups\, distributed by volunteers in Hollywood." Steve is s
 ponsoring a Sunday Serving on Sunday\, October 8 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00
p.m. and asked if our club would be interested in joining. Given the proj
ects that we've done so far this Rotary year aimed at food insecurity\, I
thought it would be interesting (and even fun) to see how another grassro
ots organization is working to help the unhoused community right in our ne
ighborhood. I'll be there and hope that we can field five or six Wilshire
Rotarians to work and observe. The event will be held in the parking lo
t behind the Gay And Lesbian Center at 1625 North Schrader Boulevard in
Hollywood (where free parking is provided).
