DESCRIPTION:The Mt. Wilson Observatory holds just a few concerts a year\, a
nd this is the last one until next summer.  I think many of us have been
to the Griffith Observatory\, but fewer have been to visit the observatory
at Mt. Wilson\, located on a 5\,710-foot peak in the San Gabriel Mountain
s\, not far from Pasadena.  They observatory was founded in 1904 by Georg
e Ellery Hale. We will attend the 3PM Concert of Brahms Piano Quartets.
Purchase tickets at https://www.mtwilson.edu/concerts/.   Please contac
t Amy (213 308 6176\, amydgm@aol.com) if you will be attending this first-
ever Wilshire Rotary trip to Mt. Wilson.  I am also looking to put togeth
er carpooling options and a dinner afterwards in Pasadena for those who ar
e interested.  If you plan to drive yourself\, please visit the website f
or directions as other maps sometimes provide incorrect information. Every
ticket purchased helps preserve this historic site.  One must climb 53 s
tairs to get to the observatory\, and it is not ADA compliant at this time
. The 100-inch telescope is the instrument with which astronomer Edwin Hub
ble discovered our place in an expanding universe and so expanded our comp
rehension. The dome for the telescope—designed by Chicago architect D.H.
Burnham—is a 20th century temple to science whose acoustics rival the g
reat cathedrals of Europe and provides a unique setting for this ambitious
  music series.
